Gadgets

Here you will find all the gadgets or accessories that a cyclist can use on their bike to make their riding experience more enjoyable.

Protect it! - “Helmets do prevent injury in cycling related accidents.”  Helmets come in a wide range of colors, air vents, and prices. Look for helmets that have the Canadian Standards Association (C.S.A. ) logo on them. Besides helmets, there are also biking gloves, knee/elbow pads, and sunglasses. Sunglasses not only help with the sun’s rays, but also prevent debris (bugs, dirt, etc) from entering the eyes.

Secure it! The most import accessory is a bike lock. I cable lock is light weight so it is easier to carry with you compared to the U shaped locks you can purchase. A company called Lock Alarm, www.lockalarm.com, has locks that will scream out a 120 decibel alarm if the lock is tampered with or if the cable is cut. An alarm is a good deterrent from a thief wanting to steal your bike.

Hydration! Water bottles, Hydration Packs, and Sport Drinks will keep you from getting dehydrated. A good tip is to fill a water bottle with half to 3/4 water then freeze it.  Take the bottle on your next bike trip. The water will melt and you will have cold water throughout your ride.

Be seen! - Having a headlight and taillight will make motorists notice you not only at night, but also on cloudy days.

Pack it!  - If you are planning to do long cycling trips, a well stocked saddle bag, pack or a pannier can make a world of difference. Especially, if you are 20 KM away from home and have a flat.  Stock your pack with a basic tool kit, suntan lotion, first aid, snacks, rain gear, cell phone, etc.

Stand out! - The brighter the color, the more you will be seen! Simple bright colored t shirts (red, yellow, orange and green) works just as good as an expensive cycling jersey.  Reflective vests and tape have great visibility not only in the daytime, but also at night.

Go the distance! - Any Bike Computer can add a sense of accomplishment, motovation, and gives you bragging rights to your friends on the distance you biked. Bike Computers also can track calories used, speed and other stats.
